Successful Marketing Habits

Successful Marketing Habits

When I decided to sell Avon and become an Ind. Representative; I knew that I would need to work at it in order for it to grow and for me to become successful.  Constantly learning and setting goals has been key to my success.  Having learned what works and doesn’t work has allowed me to share with others; like you.

This blog post isn’t just for Avon Reps. Whatever your business; you can develop successful marketing habits just as I have.

Having a successful business is no different from having a successful life.  In order to have a successful marriage you need to work on it. I know!! I have been married to my sweetheart for more than 30 years and it takes work.

You want your kids to grow up to be well-grounded, respectful adults?  Well, they don’t just grow up that way without guidance. They develop the skills they need with your guidance as a parent.

Your business is no different. Building a successful business does not come magically.  In order to build a successful business you need to work at it and develop successful marketing habits.

Successful Marketing Habits

  • Creating a schedule: When you don’t have a schedule everything goes by the wayside.  It is important to know when you are going to work and what you are going to work on for the week.  This includes adding your family and other responsibilities into that schedule.
  • Positive attitude:  The key to your success and a habit you need to develop. If you need help in this area find some motivational books, audio series or follow influencers with positive attitudes and are growing their business.
  • Staying organized: Create a space where you can easily find what you need when you need it.
  • Plan for your success: How many people do you plan to talk to for the week. Who will you follow-up with?
  • Never stop learning:  Learn everything you can about the business and the products you are selling.  Watch videos and learn from those who are successful.
  • Always be ready: Be ready to have answers to questions about the product you are selling.  Have your catalogs ready at ALL TIMES!!  Carry them with you everywhere.
  • Everyone is a customer: View everyone you meet as a potential customer or team member. No need to be pushy, just take an opportunity as it comes.
  • A smile can go a long way:  If you are not a social person and don’t like to smile in public; all I can say is work on it.  People want to shop with someone who is friendly.  Smiling could be the key to gaining a future customer or a future team member.
  • Get off of facebook: Yes, I said it!! “GET OFF FACEBOOK!” Facebook can be a HUGE distraction.  It is important to limit your time and put your business FIRST!!
  • Set goals: Start with small goals; like gaining 5 new customers per week. Create a vision board for big goals; vacation,
    car, etc.
  • Remember your why: Remember why you chose to start your business.  Write it down where you can see it.
  • Marketing everywhere: There are so many ways to market your business and yourself.  Use every avenue possible to market.  Some may work, some may not.  Try it all!!  I have marketed myself via social media, youtube, vendor events, blog posts, fliers, business cards, ads in local papers, newsletters and with a decal on my car.
  • Family first: Without your family’s support you will not be successful.  Plan to put them first before your business. You can be the most successful person on the planet financially but if you are not putting your family first you will not be successful in life.  Put your family first.  Show them they are the most important thing to you.  This success is more important than your business.

Destroyers of your success:

  • Social Media: We live in an era of social media. It is a great way to stay connected with friends and family like never before and can be a great tool for your business.  If it takes up too much of your time that takes away from your business it can become a bad thing. Not to mention how it can take away from your family. Use it liberally.
  • Television: How many hours are spent watching television or playing video games? Goodness, there are so many shows to watch. Personally, I don’t enjoy watching television. It is a huge distraction. I prefer to work on my blog posts while my family is watching television.
  • Complaining: Stop it!! Are you complaining that you aren’t making any money? Your business isn’t taking off as you thought it would? Who’s fault is that? Spend that energy on your business and celebrate the victories, no matter how small. Complaining not only hurts you, but the people around you. You will drive people away by complaining.  People are watching and if you are complaining on social media about your business you will drive away potential customers.
  • Blame Game: You are the ONLY person coming between you and your success. Don’t blame others for you not having a successful business. It is not their responsibility to get you doing what needs to be done by you.
  • Quitters never win: Quitting before you even get started just drives me crazy!! Honestly I don’t understand how anyone can buy into a business and then just give up within the first week, month or year!! Quitting is NOT going to pay the bills or get you that vacation you were planning on working towards.
